MY WHY
Why I Became a Financial Advisor
My path to becoming a financial advisor didn’t start with a single decision. It started with a problem I kept seeing.
I started Boyd CPA to create a more client-focused advisory firm. As I worked more closely with clients, I kept seeing many of the financial planning conversations I was having overlap with those they were having with their financial advisors. Investment decisions often carried tax consequences that weren’t fully considered, and tax strategies were recommended without understanding how they would ultimately flow through a client’s tax return. In some cases, portfolio changes created unnecessary capital gains that disrupted the tax plan and reduced after-tax returns. I wanted to bring tax planning and investment management together so clients could benefit from one coordinated strategy.
While tax preparation and CPA services are provided independently through Boyd CPA, and investment management is provided through Forum, I work to coordinate the two so clients get one cohesive strategy rather than disconnected advice. We build portfolios with tax efficiency in mind, help clients achieve their financial goals, and have the information we need to provide proactive planning and seamless tax preparation.
There’s also a personal reason. I’ve spent my career in public accounting, and while I love the work, tax season has a way of consuming everything. I wanted to build a firm that gives me the freedom to spend more time with my wife and our two young children while helping my clients build that same kind of financial freedom in their own lives.
I believe the future of this profession is proactive, year-round advice, not simply preparing tax returns after the fact. That’s the future I’m building for my clients, my firm, and my family.
